Michael Ma, MD

Michael Ma, MD is an Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford. His clinical care encompasses all aspects of congenital heart disease, with an emphasis on complex reconstructive procedures to achieve biventricular circulation, neonatal and infant operations, and device therapies and transplantation for progressive cardiopulmonary failure. He is Surgical Director of the Complex Biventricular Reconstruction and Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Therapies programs.

Dr. Ma’s translational research utilizes biomechanical engineering principles to optimize existing treatments and develop new procedures and therapies, through collaborations between the Schools of Medicine and Engineering. His lab focuses on understanding the atrioventricular valve in single and complex biventricular circulations; de novo surgical repair strategies and devices are evaluated in ex vivo and large animal models.

Dr. Ma has given and published more than 50 peer-reviewed presentations, articles, and book chapters, and serves on the Congenital Quality Council for the American Association of Thoracic Surgery, with active membership in the American Heart Association and Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
